This report is the culmination of extensive consultation over the last three years with students, teachers, parents, education and training agencies, universities, and industry and community organisations in metropolitan and rural communities on post-compulsory education. While acknowledging that the existing post-compulsory curriculum system has considerable strengths, it was found that it does not cater adequately for the total cohort of students eligible for years 11 and 12. The overwhelming opinion from the consultation and research process confirmed that change is necessary so that the courses available to students are relevant to their future and that all young people have the opportunity to achieve improved education outcomes in the post-compulsory years. The report outlines the scope and process of the review, the imperatives for post-compulsory reform and perspectives on proposed changes. It describes particular aspects of the new system, i.e. curriculum, standards, assessment, moderation, and certification, and outlines how the changes are to be implemented. Show less
